Chery Malaysia has officially begun the countdown to the launch of its upcoming compact SUV, the Chery Tiggo Cross, which will be unveiled in just five days, as teased on the brand’s official Facebook page. This latest model — a facelifted version of the Tiggo 4 — will come in two variants: a 1.5L Turbo and a 1.5L Chery Super Hybrid (CSH). Both versions will be locally assembled (CKD) at the Inokom plant in Kulim, alongside other models like the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro.

One of the biggest highlights is the expected pricing, which is tipped to be below RM100,000. If the hybrid variant also comes in under that threshold, it could become the cheapest hybrid vehicle available in Malaysia, beating out the Honda City e:HEV (RM112,000).
In terms of dimensions, the Tiggo Cross measures 4,318 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, with a 2,610 mm wheelbase. It’s slightly smaller than the Omoda 5 and sits right in the same segment as competitors like the Proton X50, Perodua Ativa, and Honda WR-V.

Under the hood, the 1.5L turbocharged engine produces 147 PS and 210 Nm, paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). It claims fuel efficiency of 6.3 litres per 100 km and does 0–100 km/h in 10.3 seconds. The hybrid variant, on the other hand, drops the turbo and runs a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine (96 PS / 120 Nm) paired with dual electric motors delivering up to 204 PS and 310 Nm, using a Direct Hybrid Transmission (DHT150). The hybrid offers a claimed range of up to 1,000 km, fuel consumption of 5.4 litres per 100 km, and a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 8.9 seconds.
The Turbo model comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, 380L boot space, and weighs 1,468 kg, while the Hybrid variant features 17-inch wheels, a slightly smaller 350L boot due to the battery, and weighs 1,565 kg.

Both variants come with a generous list of safety features, including Lane Departure Warning and Prevention, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Auto High Beam, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). However, the Hybrid variant adds even more, such as Door Opening Warning, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Lane Change Assist, Emergency Lane Keeping, Multi-Collision Brake, Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Centering Assist, Speed Limit Assist, and also includes 7 airbags (compared to 6 in the Turbo).

On the design front, both variants are nearly identical, with the Turbo featuring “TIGGO CROSS” badging and the Chery logo on the steering wheel, while the Hybrid gets “TIGGO HYBRID” badging and ‘CHERY’ lettering on the wheel, along with glossy steering buttons.
Both come fully loaded with equipment such as full LED auto lighting, automatic wipers, functional roof rails, dual-zone climate control with touch panel and rear air vents, faux leather upholstery, soft-touch dashboard, ambient lighting, powered driver’s seat, 15W wireless charging, twin 10.25” screens with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 540-degree camera, TPMS, and six speakers.

With its strong features, modern hybrid tech, and potential to disrupt the market with sub-RM100K pricing, the Chery Tiggo Cross is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated compact SUVs. All eyes are on Chery as we await the official reveal.
